The 2024 Cyber Study provides representative insights into the cyber security awareness of SMEs, IT service providers and the population in Switzerland. The main finding: almost all respondents perceive cybercrime as a serious threat. Despite this, they do too little to protect themselves from the danger. This is astonishing, as four per cent of SMEs and IT service providers and five per cent of the population have been victims of a serious cyberattack in the last three years.
Train safe behaviour
The majority of SMEs and households use technical security measures to protect themselves against cyber threats. They back up their data, update their software regularly and protect their Wi-Fi network with a password. In contrast, they have difficulty with measures that promote security-conscious behaviour among us humans. For example, only a third have taken part in security training and just one in six private individuals only use different passwords for different services.
